Botswana’s Ex Intelligence Boss Survived Assassination Attempt

Issac Kgosi, the former chief of Botswana's Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS)
Johannesburg, South Africa (ADV) – A legal representative of the former head of Botswana’s Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS), Isaac Kgosi, is claiming that there are threats to his life. This was revealed after his lawyer penned a five-page letter to the law enforcement agencies alleging a plan to assassinate him.

Mmegi newspaper reported that Kgosi’s lawyer, Diba Diba, sent the letter to law enforcement agencies including DIS, Botswana Police Service and the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime. The former head stated in the letter that, two suspicious security agents had followed him to a clinic while he went for a medical check-up on 18 February 2019. “They were turned away. Our client followed and found them parked outside, deadly armed with weapons of war including an Uzi submachine gun,” the letter said.

It is understood that the alleged security agents demanded to see Kgosi. “They claimed to be acting on instruction from their superiors,” Diba was quoted as saying in the letter to law enforcement agencies. Kgosi claimed that one of the reasons for the constant threats to indict him with unspecified charges and threats to his life are deliberately meant to punish him for refusing to raise funds for the ruling party for the upcoming elections. The former DIS head is yet to face corruption charges following his arrest last month. He was arrested upon his arrival from Dubai at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport. The Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) placed him under a lifestyle audit.
